Circling in on Evaporation: Dry Eye Disease Case Discussions (CE Dinner Meeting Series)

Excessive evaporation of the tear film due to meibomian gland dysfunction is a major driver of dry eye disease (DED). Although DED is multifactorial, meibomian gland dysfunction–driven DED is the most common cause of evaporative dry eye, in which tear hyperosmolarity results from excessive tear evaporation due to a deficient lipid layer. Although several topical treatments are approved to manage DED, they target the inflammatory component of DED. Until recently, there were no approved treatments in a more convenient topical form that target evaporative loss in DED. In this series of meetings, leading optometrists will present the latest strategies to adequately identify and treat DED, especially those which circle in on evaporation.
